Gather Ingredients:
3 bagels (cubed - 4 to 5 cups)
3 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
4 eggs (beaten)
2 cups milk
3/4 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350F.
Butter an 8-inch baking dish.
Add bagel pieces and mix them with the melted butter.
Mix together the eggs, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon. Pour the custard into the bagel pieces and mix.
Bake uncovered for approximately 45 minutes or until the top is browned and "springy" when pushed down with a fork.
Optional Caramel Sauce
In a small saucepan, melt an additional 3 tbsp butter and heat on medium until slightly browned.
Add 3 tbsp brown sugar and 1 tsp vanilla extract. Stir thoroughly.
Add heavy cream one tablespoon at a time while mixing on heat until the sauce thickens and turns into a smooth caramel sauce.
